Ilgauskas exercises option, will return to Heat Wed Jun 22 20:02:38 2011 EST
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Miami Heat center Zydrunas Ilgauskas exercised his $1.4 million option for the 2011-12 season on Wednesday. After joining the reconstructed Heat prior to last season, Ilgauskas started 51 games for Miami, averaging career lows in points (5.0), rebounds (4.0) and minutes (15.9). The 20th overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1996 NBA draft, Ilgauskas failed to appear in the final 12 Heat postseason games after starting eight of the first nine.
NBA Draft awaits for those who dare to dream - Part 2 Tue Jun 21 14:07:58 2011 EST
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The art of relaxation will be a useful exercise on Thursday night, except for Kyrie Irving. There has been widespread speculation indicating that the Cleveland Cavaliers will make the Duke point guard the top overall selection at the Prudential Center in Newark (You can read more about Irving's collegiate resume and his NBA prospects in Part 1 of this series in the column archive). For everyone else, their guess is as good as mine; meaning a night of success
Cavaliers host 3 players as NBA draft nears Mon Jun 20 18:37:00 2011 EST

CLEVELAND (AP) - The agent for Turkish center Enes Kanter doesn't think the Cleveland Cavaliers have decided who they'll take with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft.

On Monday, Kanter had his second private workout with the Cavaliers, who own the Nos. 1 and 4 overall picks in Thursday's draft.

Agent Max Ergul said the 6-foot-11 Kanter, who has raw skills but imposing, ready-for-the-pros size, met with Cavs owner Dan Gilbert.

``Enes told me he liked it,'' said Ergul, who believes t

Former Spurs great Mitchell passes away Thu Jun  9 18:31:52 2011 EST
San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Mike Mitchell, a former forward with the San Antonio Spurs, passed away after a battle with cancer at the age of 55 on Thursday. Mitchell was drafted 15th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1978 and he played there until being traded to San Antonio on December 24, 1981. It was in that season that he was named to the All-Star team as he averaged 24.5 points and 6.1 rebounds over 82 games. He ranked eighth in the NBA in scoring that season. After leaving the
James gets a better finals shot as Heat face Mavs Tue May 31 03:11:00 2011 EST
en those critics who hated ``The Decision'' might understand why LeBron James made it.

Or maybe they don't, because so few of them bothered to watch the 2007 NBA finals.

James was a one-man team swatted away by three great players, his Cleveland Cavaliers held to the worst offensive performance in finals history and swept aside by the San Antonio Spurs. The series drew the worst TV ratings ever and ended with James admitting his team was simply overmatched, that nothing could have been done

e time. When a brazen 22-year-old carried his overmatched team to capture the Eastern Conference Championship in 2007, it seemed like the start of the King James era was upon us. Championship parades were to run along the Ohio River as the Cleveland Cavaliers were sure to return to the promise land and the young home grown megastar would be there leading a city - known for losing more than anything else - to glory Yet, that never happened. Instead, the Cavs were swept in the Finals and reached

ing similarly dark either. They do, however, believe the guy running their basketball team isn't fit to do the job. But enough of mocking Kahn... Now that the order is set, here's an early look at how the 2011 NBA Draft will shape up: 1. - Cleveland Cavaliers - Kyrie Irving (Duke), point guard (6-2, 180) - It's interesting that Cleveland got this pick from the LA Clippers in the Baron Davis deal since Davis obviously isn't the answer long term for the Cavs at point guard. Irving is a true quart
Colangelo's second era begins with a whimper Wed May 18 13:34:43 2011 EST
It ended as a lottery that will be most likely be remembered by the Toronto faithful as the one that fleeced their team. In a shocking turn of events, the Dinos dropped all the way down to the fifth overall pick, getting leapfrogged by the Cleveland Cavaliers' pick they received from the Los Angeles Clippers and the Utah Jazz's selection that was given to them from the New Jersey Nets, effectively deflating the high hopes that many fans had going into the raffle. Now the Raptors have a real dil
