07/13/2010 -
Ann Arbor, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Former Michigan head football coach and
current associate athletic director Lloyd Carr will retire from the school's
athletic department in September.
Carr will officially retire September 1, ending 30 years of service to the
university.
"I am thankful for the wonderful opportunity to assist two great coaches here
in Bo Schembechler and Gary Moeller and I will always appreciate Joe
Roberson's decision to name me the head coach in 1995," said Carr. "I am also
appreciative for those I worked with and for all the great friendships I have
developed.
"Most of all, I am thankful for the young men I coached and for all the
memories I have from my time at Michigan."
Carr spent 13 years as the Wolverines' head football coach, compiling an
overall record of 122-40 with one national championship (1997) and five Big
Ten titles. Only the legendary Schembechler and Fielding H. Yost won more
games than Carr.
Carr joined Michigan in 1980 as defensive backs coach under Schembechler,
serving in that role until 1986. He became defensive coordinator in 1987 and
continued to hold that position when Schembechler was replaced by Gary Moeller
in 1990. Carr then took over for Moeller in 1995 and retired from his coaching
duties after the 2007 season.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch
Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.
Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.
"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
